Frank Oberschelp

For: intermediate recorder players. This level is right for you if you have had minimum 2-3 years of recorder lessons and can play simple rhythms with confidence.

In this workshop, you join an ensemble to prepare a Renaissance composition suitable to your level under the direction of Frank Oberschelp, an expert ensemble player! In addition you will work on a piece composed by Erik Bosgraaf and Ernst Reijseger, which will be performed shortly before the prize ceremony of ORDA-2023 on Sunday 9 July.

Frank Oberschelp was born in Münster, Germany. He began studying recorders with Heiko ter Schegget, Baldrick Deerenberg and Marion Verbruggen at Utrecht Conservatory in 1989. In 1994, Frank Oberschelp passed his docerend musicus examination there, and the concert examination with distinction in 1995. In 1998, he won the solo competition of the „International Recorders Symposium Calw“.

Frank Oberschelp performed with various ensembles and orchestras in Germany and Europe. His repertoire as recorder repertoire includes works from the Middle Ages to modern times, as well as Irish folk and jazz music. Several CD productions document his artistic work.

Since 1999, Frank Oberschelp has been in charge of the recorder department at the school of Music and arts of Bielefeld. Another focus of his work is to work with ensembles. He has been directing the recorder ensemble „Markus Consort Bielefeld“ for many years and is also very active in project-related ensemble and coaching work (inter alia Ensemble Wildholz, en BLOCK). Since April 2019 he also teaches at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold.

Frank Oberschelp is also a requested expert and instructor for ensemble- workshops and courses: at the International Working Group for Music e.V. (IAM), at the Recorder Summit Schwelm, at the Blockfloetenshop.de in Fulda, the ERTA (European Recorder Teachers Association) and the recorder festival in Stockstadt.
