Raphaela Danksagmüller

For: anyone, no previous experience required
Language: English
Maximum amount of participants: 15
Please bring a 440 alto recorder to the workshop!

The Duduk is one of the oldest double reeds instruments of the world. It has a 1500-year history and is native to Armenia although there are variants played in Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. The Armenian duduk  is made of apricot wood which gives the instrument the characteristic warm and melancholy sound.

In the workshop Introduction to the Duduk you will receive a brief introduction to Armenian music and the history of the duduk, to its playing techniques and ornaments.

We also will investigate the reproduction of the sound of the duduk on the recorder and play with Armenian ornaments.

There will be space for a couple of participants to try out the duduk and get a feeling of the instrument.

We will conclude the workshop with a beautiful fragment of a mugam (Azerbaijanian improvisation) playing together with all participants on their recorders.
