I dilettosi

“Piu bel suon di quel mai venuto”

These words have been written down in 1420 by Simone de Prudenzani. He describes a party that would last for many days and alongside with sweet and savoury delicacies, musical instruments are produced in an unending abundance to provide the most beautiful music.

Fiauto and un bon fiauto! Flutes, double flutes and many more wind instruments we find in these lists and letters, not only by Prudenzani, dating back to the medieval times all over Europe.

Long before keyboards were used to help humans interact with electronic devices, they were being used to harness the power of wind and strings to create sound. So effective was this way to make music, and so long was its history and development, that arguably some of the greatest works ever to be composed were conceived for, or on, keyboard instruments.
