Introduction to didgeridoo
Lies Beijerinck
For: anyone, no previous experience required
Maximum amount of participants: 15
Visitors to ORDA-2017 may remember the premiere of the festival composition, Kra Watt K19 – in the middle of the piece, a one-minute didgeridoo solo by Lies Beijerinck left the audience spellbound. In 2019, you have the chance to try out the instrument yourself!
In this workshop, Lies will introduce the basic elements of didgeridoo technique: lip, tongue, cheek, jaw and diaphragm. You will also work with your voice and practice different kinds of breathing, focusing on staying in complete relaxation. Besides, you will try out sounds like human beat-box and air-drum. Lies will provide didgeridoos for participants to borrow during the workshop.
If there are players with previous experience on the didgeridoo, Lies will work on different ways to make the toot: with lips, tongue, belly and breathing in.
Professional didgeridoo artist and teacher, Lies Beijerinck transforms any ordinary music session into a theatrical show filled with a fusion of unbelievable wobbling-, tongue-, tooting-, voice- and breathing sounds. Mix some melodies in the recipe and you get a complete and fascinating sound experience.
Lies has performed in music festivals and theatres across Europe, Central- and South America, Australia, Russia and South Africa, teaches didgeridoo workshops at all levels and has been a trail blazer, opening doors for female didgeridoo artists across the world.
